I was born in Lytham in 1945 and for my formative years I worshipped at the local Parish Church. In my teens I with other teenage friends started to think seriously about faith and together we visited just about every place of worship in the local area. Over time we all went to different churches and I elected to join the local Methodist Church which offered the warmest welcome. After a short time I was a Sunday School teacher but in 1966 felt the call to preach and was accepted as a Local Preacher in training. Shortly afterwards I moved from a job in the Civil Service in Lytham to a Chief Computer operator post in Ipswich. After about three years I applied for and was appointed as Chief Computer Operator for the West Midlands TSB in Kidderminster. I spent the rest of my career with the TSB, moving to the Manchester area in 1977. In my career I moved around various areas of Technology and towards the end of my career headed up Operations at the two national computer centres before taking on the role of heading up the Computer Support area. Throughout that time I continued to preach and undertook many roles in the church from the local church to the Methodist Connexion.
In 1995 I left the Bank and offered for the Methodist Ministry as a Workplace Chaplain. I was accepted and began work as a Chaplain to the Police in 1999 after I had completed my training. I was ordained in 2000 and in the same year took on pastoral responsibility for Heald Green Methodist Church whilst continuing with my Police responsibilities and Chaplain to the local Hospice. Heald Green has a very strong tradition of Ecumenical working and therefore I am pleased to forge increasing links of co-operation between those churches.
I was married in 1970 to Jean and we have two children. Wendy is a children’s worker in Bristol and lives in Lydney with her husband. Paul is a Psychology teacher in Bury and lives in Cheadle Hulme. At one time we also had three Labradors; we now have only one.
